Chester County: History, The Arts and Much More!

Chester County was one of the three original Pennsylvania counties created by William Penn in 1682. During the American Revolution, the Battle of Brandywine was fought there. The British soundly defeated George Washington and his Continental Army, forcing it to retreat and setting up the British taking of Philadelphia two weeks later. Washington’s Valley Forge encampment was partly in Chester County as well.
