Get the best cooling and efficiency from your A/C.

central air Kent County, MD We don’t want to be the bearers of bad news, but the sweltering summer heat will soon be upon us in Kent County and throughout Central Delmarva. Our customers will be relying on central air conditioning equipment to stay cool and comfortable when outdoor temperatures are soaring.

Here are four simple ways to ensure your central A/C is running efficiently all season long.

Check For Dirty or Clogged Air Filters.

The air filters in forced-air HVAC systems prevent airborne pollutants — including dust, mold, pollen and sundry debris — from circulating into your rooms. But if these filters get dirty, they can obstruct airflow. This can result in weaker A/C performance and reduced energy efficiency. Over time, dirty air filters can cause A/C breakdowns, too.

For these reasons, we recommend you check your air filters every month. If they are dirty or clogged, clean them or replace them.

Keep Your Outdoor A/C Equipment Clear.

Another issue that can lower your cooling system efficiency and lead to costly repairs is a blocked outdoor A/C unit. Here are a few ways to keep your outdoor central air equipment clear:

  1. Switch off the outdoor A/C unit before doing yard work.
  2. When mowing the lawn, position your lawnmower so grass clippings and other debris blow away from your A/C equipment.
  3. After mowing your lawn, spray the outdoor unit with a hose for just a minute to rinse it clean.
  4. Keep all plants, shrubs or other objects 18 to 30 inches away from your outdoor unit.
  5. Never stack garden hoses, tools or other objects on top of your outdoor A/C unit.

Be “Smart” With Your Thermostat.

Did you know you can reduce your cooling costs by up to 10% by turning up your thermostat by 7 to 10 degrees for 8 hours a day? A programmable thermostat allows you to preset these adjustments. We suggest that you program an increase in your home temperatures 20 to 30 minutes before you leave home each day and return the temperature to normal 20 to 30 minutes before you return. Additionally, you can program A/C reductions to begin 60 minutes before you go to sleep and return to normal 30 minutes before you wake up.

Want to go a step further? Get a Wi-Fi-enabled smart thermostat, which allows you to adjust your temperature remotely with a smartphone. These devices also make their own energy-saving adjustments.
